چکیده

As relational database systems become increasingly popular, there is a clear need to better understand the workload so systems can be designed or tuned more eeectively. A RElational Database Workload AnalyzeR (REDWAR) is developed to characterize the workload in a DB2 environment. This is applied to study a production DB2 system where an SQL trace for a two hour interval and an image copy of the database catalog were obtained. The results of the workload study are summarized. Here we focus on the structure and complexity of SQL statements, the makeup and run-time behavior of transactions/queries, and the composition of relations and views. The results obtained provide the important information needed to build a benchmark workload to evaluate alternative design trade-oos of database systems.

Database workload management through CBR and fuzzy based characterization

Database Management System (DBMS) is used as a data source with financial, educational, web and other applications from last many years. Users are connected with the DBMS to update existing records and retrieving reports by executing workloads that consist of complex queries. In order to get the sufficient level of performance, arrangement of workloads is necessary. Rapid growth in data, maximu...

Query Optimization in Dynamic Environments

Most modern applications deal with very large amounts of data. Having to deal with such huge amounts of data is in itself a challenge. This challenge is complicated even more by the fact that, in many cases, this data is constantly changing and evolving. For instance, relational databases that handle the data of day-to-day transactional applications often have tables with very high data change ...

Workload Representation across Different Storage Architectures for Relational DBMS

Database systems differ from small-scale stripped database programs for embedded devices with minimal footprint to large-scale OLAP applications for server devices. For relational database management systems, two storage architectures have been introduced: the row-oriented and the column-oriented architecture. To select the optimal architecture for a certain application, we need workload inform...

Optimization of Query Processing through Constrained Vertical Partitioning of Relational Tables

Vertical partitioning is an effective way of improving performance in the database systems where a significant percentage of query processing time is spent on the full scans of relational tables. Vertical partitioning provides even more compelling performance gains when it is combined with the controlled replication of data in the environments where the processing of queries dominates the data ...
